As dogs age, they are very prone to developing arthritis/degenerative joint disease. Arthritis can develop for many reasons in our pups including genetics, conformational issues, injuries/trauma, age, obesity, and many more. Look out for the following signs:
- Changes in mood (including increased irritability)
- Pain when being pet
- Difficulty posturing for urinations/defecations
- Decreased mobility/movement
- Limping, lameness, and gait changes
- Changes in social relationships (with other pets and humans)
- Sleep alterations
- And many more
If you are thinking, “Hmmm, my pup does seem to be acting a bit different”, then let us get them some relief!
We have great news, there is a brand-new modality that we have available to help fight this, it is called Librela. It has been available in Europe for years and has shown amazing results. And now we have it here! We are so excited to be able to offer this FDA-approved product to our clients and patients as an early experience provider.
LIBRELA is the newest addition to the management of canine arthritis. It is a new monoclonal antibody developed specifically for canine patients to block nerve growth factor (NGF), a substance responsible for worsening arthritis and sensitization to pain. This new and innovative medication is given as an injection in the hospital, under the skin, by your veterinary team. It is designed to be given every 30 days. Some canine patients have seen improvement even after one injection! We have even seen that patients can be taken off some of their prior arthritis management protocols.
